Autavia Automatic

Heuer introduced its ref. 1163 Autavia Automatic collection in 1969. These watches were equipped with Heuer cal.11, world’s the first automatic chronograph movement. Heuer had just introduced this movement same year together with Breitling, Hamilton-Buren and Dubois-Depraz.

The Autavia with a black dial and orange hands was first introduced in 1971, and watch enthusiasts later gave it the nicknames “Orange Boy” or “Gulf”. In 1972, Heuer updated the structure of the case and switched the acrylic crystal (plexiglass) to a mineral crystal. This Orange Boy II watch houses Heuer cal.12 movement, developed from the original cal.11 movement.
